send a follow up e-mail to a potential employer that I haven't heard from yet?

I have had two interviews and an interview project for this job with a nonprofit organization. I really want the job, think it sounds really interesting, different etc. After the second interview, I sent a thank you e-mail to the person who interviewed me. (He was an executive with the organization.) About a week later I sent a follow up e-mail to the person who first interviewed me. She said that they'd be making their final decision soon and that I should be hearing from them by the middle of this week. I've waited on pins and needles this week but haven't heard anything! Am I out of luck? Should I send one more e-mail (maybe to my second interviewer) asking if the position has been filled? Please advise. Thanks so much.

Just be patient. Large nonprofit organizations usually have a large shortlist of candidates they'd like to offer the job. It will take longer for them to look up employment references and to verify your resume, not to mention doing background checks.

Just be patient; they probably wouldn't be able to let you know you have the job, until they have all this info. If your interview went well and you don't have any dark secrets, skeletons and did not lie about your skills or resume, you should be very confident that there is a high chance you may have gotten the job.

You don't need to remind them you exist by constantly contacting them; sometimes it can be very annoying if you're an employer. Prospective employers never forget a good job/position candidate, so just be patient.
