Not matter what you consume, in most cases, too much of it will have side effect. So it is best to follow the instructions given on the product itself.

Vitamins and minerals are meant as preventive measure. Not as supplements used to cure some kind of diseases in many cases.

There is also such thing as vitamins deficiancy, meaning to say not all vitamins in the tablest consummed are absorbed by the blood cells. Certain percentage are being passed off and wasted. Thus, look for products that are reasonable priced and effective. Not all high priced products are sure 'best'.

The normal appropriate use of vitamin supplements does not have any known side effects.(except that too much Vitamin A is very bad for the unborn child so do not take multivitamins that contain Vitamin A if you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant.) Other than that the only problems is with overdose.

The B complex vitamins are required to be taken daily since it is a "water soluble" vitamin. This means it is not stored in the liver and requires daily intake since it will be excreted before the day has ended.

As for memory, vitamin B12 is what you want.

It's fine to take those vitamins, as long as you're not getting too much of them, as too much of any vitamin can give you liver or kidney problems. Vitamins may aid in memory but there's no real solid proof of that--vitamins definitely help your body's overall performance, though, so your memory might be helped a bit.
Ginkgo Biloba is said to enhance memory. You can take from 40-200 mgs a day but it's probably best to stay somewhere in the middle of that range. If you experience any side effects (rare), stop taking it.

B vitamins can make you feel sick to your stomach and shaky if you take too much. The best thing for memory loss is eating fresh fish. Before you start downing a lot of vitamins, you can ask your doctor for a blood test and find out first if you have any deficiancies. It would be better if you just ate foods that provide nutritional value. Just because we can take vitamins does not mean that our bodies absorb them.
