This isn't cigarette smoke, its fire smoke. It wasn't damaged from the actual fire, but the smoke smell is atrocious. Anyone know of a way to get it out? Right now, being winter and living in Upstate New York with all the snow we get I can't put it outside so if anyone knows of a way without putting it outside it would be appreciated. Thanks

I know what you mean with our weather, I live in Watertown!! Normally I would tell you to put Febreeze on it ( a generous amount) let that dry, and put it out side to air out. If there is anyway you could even put it in the garage to air out or near a window, that should help. We're supposed to have 'nice' weather this week so see if you can't put it outside for even a few hours. It will help dramatically if you can. Just make sure you put down some trash bags so it doesn't get wet on existing snow. Hope this helps

This is just a suggestion, but I would think if you wash the wood part well (with wood cleaner if necessary, otherwise with just a spray cleaner) that would be a start.

With the mattress I would think you could use either an upholstery cleaner or else a sudsy sponge. If you use the suds you would have to leave the mattress uncovered to dry for a while.

You could try a spray cleaner like 409 and let it dry for a while.

Not as good as getting rid of the smell, but may it would work: What if you bought a plastic, zip-on, mattress cover. I don't think the smell would get through the plastic, and the covers are inexpensive.

Did you have insurance coverage? If you did they should have tried clean this for you or replaced it. If you weren't covered then I would replace the mattress at a mattress discount house rather spend 7-8 hours on a bed breathing who knows what. Sometimes charites like The Salvation Army and The Red Cross will give you emergancy money to help in such instances. It would be worth a try.I had mentioned previously that my daughter had a house fire. It will take time to rebuild your lives but you will .I hope your son is coping with this trauma. Hang in there it does get better.

I have always used Vinegar to remove odors. You might give it a try. Just set the bowl of vinegar on a nightstand or dresser and leave it there for 2 to 3 days, and see what it does. Then do it again with fresh vinegar and put this one in a different spot. if this fails I just thought maybe you can buy a box of downy sheets for the dryer, and put then under your mattress and under the sheet.

in case you're in condo housing or apartments, you often times will locate that the previous tenants had a smoking habit that has left the residing section overpowered with the fragrance of stale cigarette smoke. And once you're a non-smoker, the scent could be incredibly bothersome. in case you finally end up if in purely one in all those places, in simple terms place small dishes of vinegar in the process the room to neutralize the scent, ideally with the doors and dwelling house windows closed, if in any respect obtainable. substitute the vinegar each couple of days and replace with sparkling. additionally, repaint the partitions. Airing out the dwelling house will help immensely, particularly in case you're able to do it on a on a daily basis foundation. attempt and get counterflow (ie. in one window and out an opposite door) to furnish the terrific ventilation

if you got smoke in that bed, and you don't like it. Its a serious problem. It takes time and effort to get that smoke and fire in there.

Yeah put it outside so the air and wind and sun can work on it maybe.

You will still have to do some laundry I think.

You may never get the smoke odor out. Do you have homeowners or renters insurance. If so, an insurance claim may help with th cost for a new mattress.

Either bleach or if that won't work, call the fire dept and ask who they recommend to clean up after a fire.
