This modern system in the House of Lords is unacceptable to we English!!! We are being robbed of our Peerages, which are then ACTUALLY GIVEN to foreigners who have not been in this country longer than a butterflies life. When did THEY "win their Spurs"??!!
In Ancient times you had to go on a Quest, and succeed at it
before you were awarded such as a Knighthood, etc. Now we are just GIVING THEM AWAY....TO ANY IDIOT!!! It should be STOPPED...FORTHWITH!!
The idea of "electing" members of the House of Lords is just an excuse to give-away more of our English heritage to these less-
deserving types and who haven't done anything worthwhile, let alone "won their Spurs"!! We've have already given away far too much already! (I trust I am making myself understood??!!)
Who,for instance is "Lord Ted of Warwick" and Where and How did HE get such a title and what-for??He must have bought such a title for I,an amatuer historian, have never heard of such a title in all of English history!

what does lordship, and knighthood have to do with each other.

Lordship is a noble title and was bestowed upon thoes of noble birth. Lords were above Knights in Medieval society. a Knight was bound to serve the crown, and as such was bound to serve any lord whose land he may be in, fur the duration of his stay in that land.

Knighthood, could be Granted for an act of valor in war.
an act of great kindness in the face of adverse conditions.
(giving one's cloak to a homeless person durring a winter storm)
or for serving a Knight through squireship and attaining the title of Knight through working for it.

i do not understand where you are going with your question.
yes a Knight dod have to earn their spurs so to speak, but a Lord was born a lord, or made one because he was rich and was a landowner. nobility took care of the day to day rulership of areas of a kingdom that were too far away from the King for him to have any great influence there.

What has this to do with GLBT?
When I saw the title of your question I thought it referred to some sexual practice. No such luck.
Anyhow, this isn't really a question. Just a rant.

I think you have a point. It all becomes a case of 'buy a peerage' and become part of the 'new money club' rather than win a peerage for anything noble or truly beneficial to your coountry!

If it's bothering you so much, it's time for you to play politics and put a stop to it. British history wasn't built on rainbows and flowers and unicorns.

Yes it is now pathetic, and the honour system should be scrapped or left to the Monarchy to decide, NOT PARLIAMENT!

I'm not a believer in the Honours system at all and feel that it should be scrapped.

Maybe you intended this question to be in the "Royalty" Category? Doesn't seem to be a question either.
