As a "Boston Whaler" owner, "I scoff at that suggestion SIR" !

"They sprayed a hull with over 2000 rounds of .50 caliber machine gun holes, and even that did'nt sink her ! (is that enough holes) ?

Not always. If you're moving fast enough to leave a wake behind, it won't sink - it will actually drain!!! (done it several times myself)

Or, if the boat is made of something less dense than water, it may fill up, but the hull will still remain more or less at the top of the water. (Boston Whalers are an example of this)

On land? Of course not, silly.

If you have a hole in the boat then it does not mean you will sink. If your voyage is shorter than the amount of water your boat will intake than it is untrue..if the boat is NOT in water than it is not true..it only works if the hole is large enough to submerge the vessel

If there is an air pocket somewere in the boat then it wont. for example the poston whaler. It wont sink on land because there is no water to come in to the boat

I would suggest that if you are on land, don't park your boat on quick sand otherwise you will sink, with or without a hole : )

Most boats built within the past 20 have foam filled sealed compartments and will not sink.

well, in your case whether you're in a boat or on land they will both have a "hole" in them, won't they?!!!

most boats are stuffed with floatation foam, it is the rough water in the sea that makes them crash and burn
