My standard is the Pigma Micron by Sakura. It's great for illustrations and the ink is archival quality. They have fine point and brush tips, but my favorite is the 005 for detail.

You do not use a pen for sketching, I'm an art students. You would use a pen with a nib or bamboo pen with ink for an India Ink drawing other than that you should use a pencil.

I usually use steadler mechanical felt pens when sketching, but I've also relied heavy on the Pilot Razer Point. Steadler may have a pen that is 0.1, but the pilot pen is flexible and allows for variablility. Usually, it's 0.5 mm.

The best pens to use are pilot point pens. They are smooth and are great for sketching.

0.5 mechanical pencil. You shouldn't really waste money using expensive pens, and pencils when you're sketching things out.
