It's unlikely that you actually need to manually raise your virtual memory numbers. I suspect you've got too many things running at startup, or a bunch of spyware/adware/malware going and are unaware of it.

Start out by turning off things that are set to start during bootup. To do this:

Go to Start-Run, and type msconfig and press ENTER
Select the Startup tab and see if there are things checked that shouldn't be
Uncheck things you are unfamiliar with and reboot
If something doesn't work correctly, just go back in and check it

After rebooting, you can do it again and do a similar exercise with services, but be careful, those are generally more important and can cause bigger problems if you don't know what to leave enabled.

After doing this, download and run two utilities from my freeware site - http://www.missingbytes.net

The ones you want are Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware These specific tools can be found at:

http://www.missingbytes.net/freeware/index.php?dir=Misc%20Tools/Adware%20and%20Spyware%20Tools/

Perform "updates" within each one to get the latest definitions and run each tool multiple times if you have to. You should eventually get a clean run with no problems found via each tool.

If you have any apps like Weatherbug or other *helpful* utilities, uninstall them. Feel free to keep your main programs, but these little utilities can take a lot of resources over time.

Virtual Memory is not your problem, and increasing it will not resolve your problem. You have to add Physical RAM (the chips inside of your computer). The total RAM installed should be at least 768MB, but 1GB is preferrable.
