while I was driving a few weeks ago. Is it possible that the reason why it flew up because possibly the hook is bent near the bumper? I really don't have the money to replace the hood (or bumper for that matter) but if anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

throw a couple hood pins in it, it will do the trick and they are pretty cheap. they just attach where the hood is suppost to latch and drill two holes through the hood where the pins go through and put your diaper pins in. there you go and good enough.

See if a body shop can pound it out and fix the latch. That would be cheaper than replacing the hood. It really isn't safe to drive with just a string tying it down. If the string breaks, the hood is going to fly up and block your view.

Its not that expensive, You can possibly go to a junk yard and find one for a cheap price.
