Yeah. Just go to Wikipedia. They have all the info on the Great Depression. There has been many depressions in the U.S. but the most remembered was the GREAT Depression. Make sure you make that clear.
Don't say it was started by the Stock Market Crash because that's ignorant. There were many reasons to it, the Stock Market Crash was just a TRIGGER.

as for the great depression, it happened because coffee was being withheld by those who grew it in order to try to get a better price for it... this led to the decline of the united states economy in the 1930's. the final straw that actually made the depression happen was when the stock market crashed.

guess you could say it started with the stockmarket crash in 1929. within a couple of years most of contrhy was unemployed and by mid thirties until ww2 life was hell in usa. watch the movie grapes of wrath with henry fonda to get a feel for how bad things were. fdr help with some gov. programs that made labor jobs for men to build roads, bridges and such but it was ww2 that triggered an economic revesal. usa got very rich off that war if you were to study your economic history. nobody does. they just think they know what they know. bs. your answer is 1932 to 1939.

How to write an essay: QUICKLY!
Choose a topic.
Write down 3 facts or opinions that relate to your topic.
For each of those facts or opinions, write down three examples.
Conjure up a main idea which includes your three facts or opinions in relation to your topic.
Come up with a unique way to draw your reader's interest.
Begin your essay...First draw your reader's interes, and then tell about your main idea and your facts or opinions in relation to your topic. In the same order as you list your facts or opinions in your opening paragrah, use each fact or opinion and the three examples as each of your 3 body paragraphs. Restate the purpose of your essay in your final paragraph.
Example, rough as it may be...
Topic - Dogs
1. Make good house pets.
a. Teach them to do tricks that benefit you, like fetching the newspaper.
b. Are lovable and keep you company.
c. Provide security.
2. Are a lot of work.
a. Have to walk them many times a day.
b. Have to feed them and give them fresh water.
c. Have to give them exercise.
3. Can be dangerous.
a. Some don't like children.
b. Some are trained to attack.
c. Some bite.
Always remember to end each paragraph by introducing the topic of the next one.
Your opening paragraph can be something like this....
Psychiatrists sometimes say that owning a pet, such as a dog, can prolong the life of a person. In my opinion, you have to weigh the pros and cons of dog ownership. They can be great house pets, but they are also a lot of work, and can sometimes be dangerous.
Having a dog around the house to fetch things such as the newspaper can be convenient. Also, many people form close bonds to their dogs because they are lovable and provide companionship. Sometimes, they train their dogs to help keep them safe. However, even though people benefit from having a dog as a pet, owning a pet is a lot of hard work.
Dogs have to be taken for walks many times during the day. Pets also need to be fed and given fresh water throughout the day. It's also important to give dogs plenty of exercise, in addition to walking them for potty breaks. For people who have the extra time to do these tasks, owning a dog is great, but for those who are have very busy schedules, they may find a dog's needs too time consuming. Either way, it's important to keep in mind that not only are pets hard work, they can also be dangerous.
Some dogs don't like children, and they feel threatened. In many instances, they refuse to share attention from humans with children or other pets. There are also people who train their dogs to attack, which is fine if they are confined, but if they get loose, it can be dangerous to people in the neighborhood. Dogs may confuse a situation and attack or bite strangers.
In conclusion, psychiatrists may have reason to believe that pet dogs make you live longer. Afterall, they can make good house pets, but it is equally important that we take into consideration that they do take a lot of work, and can be dangerous.

That took me all but 5 minutes to develop the outline and the essay. I know it's a very basic one, but with some imagination and creativity, following those steps can bring forth an awesome essay.
And FYI...if you use wikipedia, always double check your info by visiting the sites they list. Often times the information on the main pages is flawed and inaccurate. This is an encyclopedia devised of the general public, not always factual information.
