By musicals I'm assuming you mean the films that are mostly song and music-oriented. Animation nowadays has become about churning out films that are largely eye and ear candy with no real substance. Why? To make money. Get in, get out. A lot of the budget is probably spent on hiring Robin Williams. There's no money left over for hiring REAL songwriters, arrangers, composers, etc. Without those people, my friend, there is no "musical."
That latest "animated film" with the peguins is an embarrassment (shame on you Mr. Williams).

I think that Disney (Walt) saw death as a part of life. The old ones mix in the scary stuff because it is exciting. Maybe this was a time too when Parents still took their kids to the movies, didn't just drop them off in front of the theater. Those old ones, I think, were made for parents and kids to watch together and spur discussion between kids and their folks. I'm thinking primarily of Snow White and Bambi; but The Lion King and The Little Mermaid are examples of later Disney films with the same kinds of themes.

I think it has something to do with our changing attitudes toward entertainment. I had to read Pinocchio and Cinderella to my son every night for along time.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. And, of course, a cult favorite 'The Sorcerers Apprentice'. Great musical score and all done in conventional animation. Those are truly works of art. The Disney Company doesn't like to over show them because they re-release them from time to time for each generation, I guess it's about that time.

The "classic Disney masterpieces" are stored in golden vaults in Hollywood....The best of the best are archived and can be seen with the right amount of CASH to remove and reproduced with colorization if you wanted....Our entire movie world is heading towards "sensationalism" ( explosions, accidents, murders, blood & guts , etc) instead of healthy video's.....also on the news media and television programming....Why do you think we have so much hatred on the streets??? Think about it..

I know.. it seems like all the G movies are having more and more adult humor in them, and even though the kids won't get it, older people will and it's like oooooomg did they just say that?! lol. But yeah, and I didn't know you could say douche or however that's spelled in PG movies...I was like huh?? lol. But yeah.. I was wondering why they aren't making cartoon movies anymore..not that I watch them.. but I think the movies I watched when I was little were way better than the crap they make for little kids now.

They were locked away in the Disney vault. They'll be released in the future periodically.

Nobody likes musicals. Only gay people like musicals and no one cares about gay people. Who watches Disney anyways? It's for kids. Kids certainly don't like musicals, they want to see some action.
