Pick a hobby or subject that interests you.. You will do a lot better on a speech if you are actually interested in it. If possible relate your interest into some current event.. The music U.S troops are listening to in Iraq, or the positive effects of playing hours and hours of video games... etc.

Number one rule for a speech ---KNOW YOUR SUBJECT !!
Pick a topic you know about in detail or a hobby etc. Know 10 times more information than you need for your speech. No memorization is necessary and probably you will be excited about that topic and it easier to do well.
Example- tell them about this new web site called Answers.yahoo.com .

How about challenging your class to go 72 hours without technology and suggest what they might do. No internet, no cell phones, no tv. Give it try and have some good suggestions.

If you can pick absolutely any topic, maybe you should talk about the war in Iraq and how 20,000 more troops will be sent in.
You could also talk about environmental issues such as global warming and the like. Anything's possible!
