a close friend of mine recently reappeared in my circle of friends and i had told my husband that maybe the reason is so she could be a seagat for us, well the next time i speak with her she says that she is prego and going to terminate. i told her what we thought and were willing to do and she agreed to allow us to adopt the baby. now we need to get paperwork signed and if anyone has suggestions on that would help us out but basicly why i am worried is that my husband all the sudden is being very argumenative and wouldn't even speak to her when she was here she had to speak to him and ask about her car (he's mechanic) but its bad and i am considering telling her we are backin out before its too late for her to terminate if she wants and also i am conserned she is drinking and using drugs.

have a serious heart to heart with your husband. see if this is something he really wants and what is on his mind.

if you do decide to go through with it, stipulate in the contract that she cannot do drugs or drink.

The first thing that you should do is see an attorney, things must be documented and legal. Second, why is your husband being arguementative ( there must be a reason) ? That needs to be straightened out. You say you are considering backing out NOW that it's too late for her to terminate. Did you only imply that you wanted the baby to keep her from terminating her pregancy? She can certainly find somone else to adopt the baby. Tell her to call Child Services and ask them to help her find someone.

BOTTOM line, if you feel she is drinking and doing drugs while pregnant, please be sure you contact Child Services and find out where to report this, as it is considered CHILD ABUSE.

Definitely, don't continue in the adoption if you don't feel you are capable of handling a newborn that may go through drug and alcohol withdrawal and may be born with special needs for life.

SOunds like a sticky situation. Is there anyway you can take care of her until she has the baby? Have you always wanted to adopt or did you just decide once you found out her circumstance. I would try to help her find a safe place to live and maybe call the cops if she is doing drugs so that she can get into some rehab program.
