about history of itunes and the year range of computers?

did itunes mostly run on computers later than 1999
even if theyer macs or ones with windows

i have a windows 98(#2) and couldnt donwload itunes.. i forgot why


i just whant info on how long has itunes been around and what computers or software it could work with in its early days

iTunes was introduced in 2001.
It is supported on computers running on Mac OS X and Windows 2000 or greater.
