like the old greek philosophy we live in cynical times and more; people not only have self interest set as primary but they want instant gratification as well .I do believe it's reflective of our monetary capitalism that is salient in this problem as well as other influences. Most religions are based upon these values of money and success that help pervert the character of many.
peace out

We live in a society full of selfish people. It's acquired, not inherent.

There are in fact many people who feel compassion for others; it's kind of like love--about 50% of married couples get divorced, but there's still those other 50% that are never credited!

It seems as if you are a compassionate and sympathetic person. Keep fighting the good fight!

Lead and others shall follow.

I guess its kind of human nature. To want to preserve themselves. We are the only species though, to show compassion i think...or it might be something else.

Life is complicated and dynamic. Perhaps you would like to be more specific what you are referring to, and not jump to conclusions so quickly.
