I would like to do graphics/web design work from home. What should I know before starting. Do I need a license or something. I know that I need to report this income to the IRS, is there an easy way to do that. Something else that I should know? Any personal expereince is helpful. Thanks in advance.

You don't need to have any licence for webdesigner, but you need to show some sites you already made, to your future costumers. So, you have to write nice portfolio and sign-up on freelancing sites. Like http://www.workfromhome-at.com/freelance.html for example. Also, it would be useful to join few webdesign and freelancing forums, too.

You should buy that book like the Dum./Id. Guide to starting a small business. You should incorporate yourself. My friend did that and can even claim her car as part of her business expenses.
You should work on a business plan. You should work on a Marketing Plan. I am assuming you already have a few propective clients? I think that you should have some legit. business prospectives before leaving your place of employment... you are probably going to have to look up to buy your own health insurance. Good Luck
