Most of the rich people in this country are Republicans, hense, they own small, medium, and large companies. Their own greed won't allow them to share some of their wealth with ordinary Americans, so we unionize so as to force them collectively to give us a better wage and better benefits. They oppose unions because they are effective against their greed, which never seems to end. They have to try to bust unions so that they and their top stock holders can rake in millions while we slave for them. Republicans stick together on this issue and claim that it is because of the rich poeple that we have decent jobs, while we union people say that it is because of us that you have the privilege of being so rich, and you will share the profits with us, or we will stop you in your tracks. Most of the time we get what we want, some times we don't. Take the State of Florida for instance; they have one of the lowest number of union workers and this reflects on the wages down here, they are very low as compered to New York, which has a very large concentration of unions. Still, either through ignorance or some form of curse this is a Republican state. Well, Iam a retired telephone worker from New York, meber of The Communication Workers of America, and I retired a millionaire only because we fought Verizon Communications with all we had. This is one union that the Republicans will not bust, they know who we are and we know how greedy they have been, and we demand that they share what we all bring in as profit........KECK

Because they see the damage that unions do to the people the say they are helping. Here are a few examples
1. At my local Safeway supermarket (a Union shop) there is a Starbucks. The Barista's (a tip based job, just like waiting tables) are not allowed to make tips because the union has set up pay scales in their negotiations with Safeway management and the Union does not want someone with less seniority making more money. This simply takes money out of the Barista's pocket and devalues the profession. And why? because a shelf stocker might get jealous.
2. The Unions are financing the media assault on WalMart because they are not a Union shop. This hurts people who would benefit from having a WalMart closer to them so they can buy goods cheaper.
3. The Unions in schools have turned our education system into a joke by fighting any attempt to pay teachers according to anything except seniority.
4. Ask any worker what "union rules" means and you will hear that you should not work to hard because it will make your co worker look bad.
5. Unions take money from people who make minimum wage all throughout the country causing the person working the job to have to work for less than minimum wage. These dues that are forcibly taken (or stolen in my opinion) to support Union leaders, who are basically corrupt politicians. Beyond that, the unions give money to political groups that the worker may not agree with and the worker just has to fall in line and kowtow to the leadership.
Unions had their place, back when companies practiced slavery and forced child labor. But those days are long gone. Unions now exist to make the Union bosses rich and to help fund the democratic party.

It depends on the union. Some unions are not looking out for the working man some are. Some unions could careless for the health of the business and industry that pay the wages of its workers. Republicans or Democrats they will vote for who ever makes the biggest donation. The correct question would be why are conservatives union busters. The answer would be because the bulk of unions are bloated and wasteful. They kill off competition and drive business to foreign countries. They waste workers dues and some are tied to organized crime. If unions cared about workers, why didn't they raise a huge stink over NAFTA and CAFTA? Why do they support Democrats who want to choke the business that pay the wages of their workers. Shouldn't they be concerned with the taxes of their workers? The basic value of conservatism is: competition is good for business and business is good for workers and consumers. Unions are not good for competition especially with other countries.

It starts at the top with the United States’ most anti-union, anti-worker administration ever. President Bush’s National Labor Relations Board appointees include a former management attorney, and the board’s decisions have been consistently anti-worker and anti-union.
Last year board members voted 3-2 that academic student employees at private universities are not workers and therefore not entitled to federal labor law protection. They also voted 3-2 to deny nonunion workers the right to have a co-worker present during meetings that might result in discipline or firing.
One of Bush’s first acts as president was to roll back Occupational Safety and Health Act standards developed by the UAW and other unions over a 10-year period and put in place by President Clinton. Then Bush denied the right to organize for 170,000 workers at the Department of Homeland Security. The Bush administration has led the attack on overtime pay, workers’ compensation, the 40-hour workweek and more. The president has pushed onerous, expensive and time-consuming financial reporting burdens on unions and in the 2005-2006 budget, while the nation faces record deficits, calling for more Labor Department funds for oversight of unions.

A better question to ask (because Republicans don't bust unions) is what the Democrats have to gain by subsidizing and supporting unions.... follow the money.

Republicans are mainly for the Buisness and the Unions are for the employees, and see to it that they get decent wages and regular priceof living increases and good health benefits. The republicans want to get rid of unions than the employee is at the mercy of the buisness!

It's a philosophy thing. Republicans are generally individualists. The unions are a little like sociallism. Unions have been good and bad though. They have increased wages, good. They create "work rules" which decrease efficiancy, bad.

The same reason some democrats, are, they support big business who in turn funnel money into their campaign pockets. The unions support the working man&woman by helping them receive a decent wage and safe working conditions.I have been in the Bricklayers union for 45 years and have never heard anyone tell another to slow down or put less units in the wall. Thats B.S.Union workers take PRIDE in their skills and give a honest days work .In the Local I was in if any work was sub-par the local redid it at the unions expense

I think unions which are reasonable in their demands are fine.
But I see all of the jobs headed overseas where labor is
extraordinarily cheaper even if less productive. How can we
continue to let all of these jobs escape? Is it okay to justify
this by stating that the goods are cheaper for us when we
import them back from these low wage countries? I just guess
I question whether unions have sometimes gone too far with
their wage and benefit demands.
