A 32 weeker is a preemie and will probably spend time in an incubator in the NICU. The lungs are developed, but don't have enough surfactant for them to stay inflated properly. The baby will be given a surfactant at birth to promote good breathing. You will probably be given a steroid prior to the birth to help the baby's lungs finish developing to give him/her a better outcome.

At 36 weeks the baby is just on the edge of being full term. I had one at 34 weeks and had no problems at all. Other people's babys stayed in the nursery for several days to weeks.

My daughter was delivered by c-section at 32 weeks. As a matter of fact, I turned 32 weeks that very day. She weighed 3 lbs 2 oz. Her lungs were fully developed. So, she was breathing on her own. She was completely healthy. Babies at that age usually can't suck yet. So, he had a feeding tube in her nose. She said in the hospital for two weeks after that. She couldn't come home until she weighed 5 pounds. She's now 8 months and is doing wonderful!!

my daughter was born at 34 weeks and came home at normal time after delivery. she had some jaundice issues, but nothing worrysome. otherwise she was perfectly healthy, just a little yellow. it will depend on the baby. 32 weeks is more likely to have more complications than a 36 weeker. because that's a whole month's difference. your dr. can let you know what complications to expect.

I had my son at 35 weeks and he was very healthy. Yes he was small ( 4lbs 15.6oz & 17 inches long) but he did not have one thing wrong with him and he got out of the hospital on the same day as i did. It was a 3 day stay because i had a c-section. He is now 5 years old, healthy and smart!

I had my youngest daughter at 33.3 weeks gestation. They were able to give me steriods for her lungs before she was born. She did have moderate jaundice and stayed two days under the bili lights. She weighed in at only 3lbs. 7oz. and was 16.5ins. She spent 3 weeks in NICU, due to poor nursing. When she left the hospital, she weighed 4lbs. and 7oz. and was 18.5in. She is now 2yrs. and she eats everything in sight! She weighs 26lbs. and is 32ins.(a little short) But there's nothing wrong with her. She very bright and very active. She was a little slower at walking and crawling, but she's right on que for everything else.
