I think that it is very difficult to compare them. They just represent two very different types of funny. Eddie Murphy has proven himself to be a bit more versatile in his acting career but he has a few years on Will Smith. Will Smith has matured a lot through the years his recent movie roles have show this. He seems to have certain moral standards that he will not exceed whereas Eddie Murphy can play more hardcore raunchy roles.

Will Smith is a nice funny (like Bill Cosby) and doesn't seem to go for the nasty funny; but Eddie Murphy can do both pretty well. I gotta go with Eddie. Now I want to watch Trading Places again!!!

I think for their generations they are both equally funny. Will Smith was never a stand-up comedian; Eddie Murphy used to "kick-***" when he was on stage. As for being funny in a sit-com setting Will Smith takes the trophy hands-down since Eddie has never been a regular on a tv series.

I like eddie Murphy more...He did a few stand up shows that were hilarious....Delirious and Raw come to mind..and then there are those classics....Trading Places..and other great movies that he has made....
I like Will smith also and he had done some great work but I still prefferr Eddie Murphy...
