people who live in rural areas acceptable, but not of others?

An example of the stereotyping I'm talking about is calling people living in rural areas (a majority of which are conservative) "Billy Bobs" "Red Necks" and "Inbreeders", among others?

Is this another form of Liberal Hypocrisy? (Seeing as how I've only seen liberals call rural Americans such, I've decided to make that my question)

I've wondered about that myself. But I know why, everyone wants to make fun of some group. The only acceptable groups for the Liberals to make fun of are white, middle-class, non-college graduates. I don't understand why this is acceptable, being a Red Neck, I hope some day to have the ACLU or some Liberal organization defend me.

No, it's an ascendancy thing from people living in urban areas. They think that since their jobs consist of stealing, raping and pillaging the wallets of decent people (like those in the rural areas) they are entitled to have a condescending name for them. They don't understand that a couple hundred years ago their families did that, and better yet that these rural folk who farm and whatnot REALLY make their lives better.

Because these people are secure with who they are and do not allow name calling from others effect them. When you are an intelligent, well rounded person things like that don't bother you, they know the truth. Where as people who are not o.k. with who they who they are, what they believe and are confused about the world around them take everything to heart and have to say it aloud for everyone to hear, so they get attention and make them feel as if they did something right.

As a southern man,I can say the term "redneck" doesn't offend me in the least. It's just a word.It only has whatever power I give it.
I do understand your point. It's just that anyone who stresses out over labels is a little weak minded.
