rigorous - means with energy & vigor; strenuous

Rigorous does not mean with energy and vigor, that is "vigorous".
Rigorous means "rigidly severe or unbending; austere; harsh stern, extremely strict; scrupulous; severely exact, rigidly accurate".

Do you mean RIGOROUS or REGRESS?
RIGOROUS means exact, precise or harsh
REGRESS means to go backwards.
