I'm an American tourist planning on going to Turkey in April. I know that there was some terrorist activity directed against tourists last summer and that the journalist Hrant Dink was assassinated. I'm going with a group tour. Will I be safe?

Terror, bombs and assasinations are everywhere today. Turkey is no more dangerous than any other country. Moreover, Turkey is known with hospitable, kind and symphatetic citizens especially for tourists. I am sure you will love Turkey because of its harmonization of east and west as well as its historical and touristic sightseeing places. Have a nice trip and do lots of shopping as US Dollar is very valuable in Turkey:)

If it's a reputable tour agency, you won't have a problem. I think those are isolated incidents that you mention. I travelled for years around Turkey without a problem.

The only thing I'd caution is that in Istanbul, about 1 in every 8 taxis tried to rip me off (either by not giving the correct change or taking long detours -- so have a map that you can follow to keep yourself oriented). Other than that, I loved Turkey -- great people, magnificent sights and history, good food, nice weather. Try to be on the Bosphorus at sunset.

I've spent 8 months three years ago and 3 months two years ago in Israel AND the Palestinian Territories and believe me, there's more chance of being killed or hurt in a road accident than anything else just like everywhere. If you're on a Biblical pilgrimage you MUST go to the Territories: Bethlehem, Jericho (very scenic), Hebron are all important Biblical sites. The Israelis will try to put you off but the Palestinians will be really glad to see you. Don't forget there are Palestinain Christians, including evangelicals. I can put you in touch with some if you e-mail me.

the murder of hrant dink was a provacation just like your funny question. Anywhere on the world you may get killed by terrorists you give me a name of country which is safe 100 %.
what are you trying to do? just like other terrorists are you trying to show that turkey is not safe to go? how many people get killed in USA everyday. is it safe for a turk to come . by the way why did you say you are an American? you sound more like someone else like who tries for years to reduce Turkeys tourism income. FUNNY Childish Question.

If you are going on a reputable group tour you should be perfectly safe. Just be cautious, use common sense, and keep in mind Turkey is predominately Muslims. Have a good trip!

If you think Armenian Genocide is a fact dont go to Turkey, you will be prosecuted for "insulting Turkishness" and serve jail time if you luckily dont get killed before your trial. Thats what happened to Hrank Dink. Otherwise be carefull and dont trust anyone unless you know them personally. There are many good people in Turkey but Radicals are very spread and powerful with government ties. Istanbul is beautiful enjoy if you go.

you will be as safe as you would be in another country. unfortunately (as we all know), terrorist activities and assassinations happen in all countries. that doesn't make Turkey any more dangerous than other countries.
