From a parent who had a daughter missing for 12 days there are a lot of expenses, gas looking, missed work, posters, etc.
And your regular bills just keep right on coming.
We even hired a Bounty Hunter TWICE.
It is not cheap & you would be surprised at the false "leads" & sighting that led to a wild goose chase each time.
People seemed to come out of the woodwork to create even more heartache for our family & friends.
It is not a fun situation.

BTW There is a SHAWN HORNBECK FOUNDATION that has been set up since Shawn went missing.
It not only helps Shawn's family but other missing children's families.
They announced on Anderson Cooper's show that they would keep that open for other families.
I can only imagine the cost of searching for 4 years & 3 months for Shawn has strained the Hornbeck family so if they do receive any money than I am sure they need it.
Would it even BEGIN to repay them for all that their son & their family has been thru?
No amount of money would replace what has been wrongfully taken!
I am sure the Hornbeck family will strive even harder to bring other kids home & use those funds wisely if there are any.

Luckily our daughter was not missing as long as Shawn but she carries scars that money cannot replace.
Emotional scars & physical scars.
Everytime I look at my beautiful now 26 year old daughter & see a scar from where her throat was cut I remember.
Even though she is now married w/ 3 kids of her own now don't you think SHE remembers each time she looks in the mirror.
And WE cannot even see the emotional scars!
And we didn't make one thin dime from her ordeal.
Just so you know...

I find this whole scenario to be very strange. Why didn't the boy try to escape ? Why did he pop up out of nowhere all of a sudden ? How do we know the whole thing is just a setup by the parents to make money like you said ?

More than likely they made money off of the Oprah deal. You gotta feel sorry for the kid. He was home less than a week and his parents already had him on TV?! Shouldn't they have him at home adjusting to his new life and going to counseling?

I'm sure the Oprah paid them. It's just to bad that when they found the guy that he didn't " go for a weapon" wink wink. Problem solved.
I was also really ticked with the mom during the Oprah interview. She said "alleged" when referring to the scum that kidnapped her son. I can understand a lawyer saying that. But the mom. COME ON, HE DID IT, HE WAS CAUGHT REDHANDED. Alleged my @**.

I sure hope not, bless his heart. You know maybe he was just too scared to try to get away from this man. They should never let that man out of prison. Thats a shame that you can't trust anyone around your children. I just hope that the child gets alot of help and recovers from this, god bless him.

I don't think so.the public want answers ,so the media are calling them to find these unanswered question.you never know it just may bring someone else child home or make doctors understand why sick people want to kidnap and harm children. you got to think about it, their are not alot of children that return home so we can ask them questions.

I don't think so...they went on Oprah but they didn't exploit the kid or his story it was just to raise awareness. They aren't even revealing any details and claim they haven't even been told the whole story. I haven't heard anyone talking about movie or book deals yet but I think that will inevitably come up at some point...whether or not they accept these deals I dunno.
