,who actually know who the insurgents/terrorists are unlike the US military, will have no problem winning the war by themselves? The US military did there job and they did it well & now it's time to come home as heroes. (FYI: the Iraqi (shiite) army hates the Sunni terrorists just as much as we do).

You are absolutely right. Saddam is gone, the government is up and running and says they don't really think they need a troop surge....

Let's bring our folks back with a parade.

Because what you don't seem to realize is that the Iraqi army is not yet ready to be on their own. Until now the Americans have had to put too much effort into protecting themselves and Iraqi civilians from the insurgent terrorist attacks, instead of concentrating more on training. It was a dangerous and relentless situation which made it much more difficult to train the Iraqi soldiers to be in a position to be on their own. That is why Bush wants to send another surge of American special forces in.all at once. It will be so as to have enough man power to train more Iraqi soldiers faster and be there while they try to take down the Iranian and Syrian insurgents once and for all. This should give the Iraqi soldiers more confidence and in the end if the insurgents are finally under control, the Iraqis will be able to handle whatever is left. If we do not take this action, then the insurgents will declare victory, flow in in even larger masses and take over and turn the new democracy into a theocracy like Iran. The reason for the Iranians constantly interfering in Iraq is that having a democratic government in the Middle East is a huge threat to their plans to grow terrorism in that part of the world which is strategic to their plans to destroy Israel and America. If we leave Iraq at this time it will be a huge threat to our country as well. We cannot blame this situation on the war in Iraq as some people try to do because the situation was there long before we rescued Iraq from a terrorist dictator who was harboring Alcaida training camps and breeding hotbed for those who would continue to plot more 911's on us. As long as we are fighting them there, we are keeping them from attacking us here. If Congress votes to not let Bush send more troupes into Iraq or mandates that the troupes come home now, mark my words we will have another 911(or 2 or 3) only much worse. We are in a world war and the sooner Americans start seeing it that way and come together like they did in WWII, the sooner we will win

The depth of knowledge concerning the threats and tactics of the Islamic radicals in some of your answers scares the hell out of me.

Every time someone says "real threat" - they receive a volley of "scare tactics" in return.

Scare tactics? Really?
The Islamic terrorists have indiscriminately murdered thousands on innocent men, women and children throughout the world. They have been systematically murdering Americans and committing acts of war against the United States around the globe since 1979.

They have stated their goals and objectives numerous times - and have demonstrated their demented commitment to this ideology by slaughtering innocent people repeatedly.
History has clearly shown that apathy or inaction only begets more terror and murder.

What the hell do these dirt bags have to do to get our attention?

Do you really think a withdrawal by the U.S. at this time will get their attention?

The future consequences of losing this war far outweigh the immediate satisfaction and joy we might experience if we bring our soldiers home before the task is completed.

they have found WMDs. US military is presently in Iraq on the request of the recent Iraqi authorities to help stablize the country till they get their new protection stress as a lot as %. by technique of leaving now the terrorists - ninety% who're coming in from different international places might want to be triumphant in destroying the newly elected govt. in common words 15% of Iraq continues to be below consistent attack by technique of terrorists - killing threat free Iraqi's who're attempting to get on with their lives - the overall public of the country has lower back to familiar opperations without bombings. those extremists want no longer something more effective than to kill those who do no longer share their perspectives - in the experience that they weren't concentrated on killing our troops there, that that they had turn their eyes to killing electorate the following.

I agree. Lack of a exit plan was Bush's decision. Powell warned him before invasion. Bush ignored Powells advice. We are in occupation of Iraq. In a occupation there is no victory or defeat. The only defeat is the American working class tax payers who will pay the $2 trillion cost of that Republican mistake, based on lies. The sadness is that we Americans have 3029 dead in Iraq and now 21,500 more targets for the IDEs that kill. Terrorist are cowards, they will not face our Marines, they do the dirty work behind our backs. There will always be people who claim to be vets and always people who are un informed, those types, Like Bush will never get it. I have walked the yellow footprints, few have. Unless you have seen your best friends guts on the ground, they never will get it. Bush and Cheney are both draft dodgers they know nothing of war. No real Vietnam vet would ever support a draft dodger as Commander.

it costs too much to instill civilization in one small country. Not worth it. There is a huge part of world that is muslinic. Be careful. We do not want a World War III.

As far as wars go, if you win, you come home, if you lose, you also come home. Over there is neither your home, nor your land, why bother?
Protect homeland is a lot more important.

Win or Lose, dear soldiers, welcome home.

And if Americans are more forgiving than trying to pin who is wrong, whose fault--followed by what stupid impeachment, I think it might offer Bush a better chance to take the army home. I hope there is someone out there say: Bush whatever it is, we forgive you. We think you did a great job protecting us from Terrorist. Let's forget the pain of war and move on. Now that Saddam is dead --that is a big Victory!! Army, Generals: come home let's celebrate together.

the government seems fine

it seems to be operating fine... we've been training troops for 3 or 4 years now... how long does it take to train them?

there are some terrorists attacks, but there are almost daily attacks in Israel too... that doesn't mean that they aren't fit to stand on their own...

there will be terrorist attacks for years there...

I think we've done all we can...

I mean do Republicans want to stay for ever? when ever we leave the insurgents will probably "declare victory"... be it 50 years from now?

and the last gov. estimates on terrorists in Iraq (not naive Iraqis, but people from other nations) was around 1,500... that's probably about the same for any middle eastern nation... if not lower than most?

they will NEVER meet the standard of victory that most Republicans apply to the situation... so they have in fact set themselves up for failure... because they don't understand the middle east at all...

America doesn't want to be there in 20 years...

Because the Iraqi army cannot handle the pressure of securing the country, and their security forces aren't ready to govern a free people because they are used to the old school militant gestapo-type tactics. So when we leave, their army dissolves (discipline, courage, and leadership require years, even decades, to "train" into the troops), their country falls apart, the terrorists take control and then they have a nice revenue stream of oil to fund their worldwide campaign against the west.

Pretty picture, huh? Then you have the opportunistic, Hezzbollah-loving Iran looking across the border at the Iranian oil and considering what a nice prize (and boost to terrorism funding levels) the Iraqi oil would be for Iran.

So military withdrawal at this time leaves the USA in a much worse position than before we intervened with Saddam Hussein in power, who was BTW funding terrorists. Who cares if we "surrendered," when all of our cities are being infiltrated and attacked with well funded suicide bomber cells. That's failure, that's tragic foolishness for America, and that's exactly what President Bush won't allow to happen under any circumstances, even if both he and his party has to take serious political hits to protect us from that (the November elections being a tremendous, but unavoidable, blow to his political power and to the Republicans' political power).

It wouldn't be surrendering. It's a civil war between various Iraqi factions.

Problem is - Bush STARTED that civil war - which was his intention from the beginning.

We have a responsibility to clean up Bush's mess.

We can't leave until the Rethuglicans have used up all the money our country used to use on benevolence on war, hate, death, blood and filth.

That's their plan.

They're so sick of giving $$ to welfare mothers. They'd rather kill brown people. Hey, look at this country's history, though. The murder of Indians, the use of black people as slaves...that's what these Rightards want to go back to.

So long as the Big White Daddy is in power, they feel safe as little minded bedbugs, leaching everything good out of this country forever.

There. I feel better, thanks :)
