It is a dangerous precedent. There is an arms ban in space and China is clearly violating it.

By the way, China is also preparing to go to war with the U.S.. That is well documented.

China supports North Korea. It took a long time to China to agree to U.N. actions against North Korea.

It's known as saber-rattling. It went on all the time during the Cold War. We'd do something then the Russians would. The Russians would do something then we would. Despite their apparent "friendliness" to North Korea, it also sends them a message that they shouldn't try anything stupid. If push comes to shove between the US and North Korea, China will be the mediator - they have too much as stake in this country to see us go down. Also, they have their eyes set on establishing a colony on the moon before we do - that's their main objective - not getting in an arms race. But, if you're scared, you might want to brush up on your Chinese - Mandarin is the most popular dialect.

It was their own missile and their own satellite. So, from that standpoint they have done nothing wrong.

Two areas of concern are 1) The space junk created in space by these thousands of particles left up their. This plays havoc on new satellites being sent to space. A quarter sized piece of junk can do real damage to a space vehicle it may encounter. 2) It could be that China is ratcheting up it's military capabilities, I believe this will encourage the military arm of US Technology to start burning the midnight oil.

It makes no difference what you think or I think their intentions are. We have a very pragmatic system in this country that says: we will stay ahead of competition, no matter what their intentions are or what their game plan is.

Remember the US is putting into place a system with the ability to strike incoming ballast missiles? Well part of that is space based satellites that would shoot down these missiles. China is serving notice.

The US has said for years that they had the technology to shoot down satellites and when 160+ countries wanted to sign an agreement not to weaponize space the only country refusing to sign was......THE US.......Why did China do this........just to prove that the US is not the only super power on the planet.

To let the world know that we are bad and in the neighborhood. A sitting rattlesnake waiting to be poked or a pressure cooking waiting to explode. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer!

They were just destroying a satellite while also proving to themselves they have some pretty sweet weapons if anyone messes with them

To the person who claims it's a dangerous precident [sic], America did the EXACT SAME THING in 1985... when you were nothing more than a dream I bet.

They did it to serve as a pre-emptive warning in case war breaks out, which is somewhat amusing since it's probably not a good idea to let other countries know your military capabilities. In any case, it was probably just for practice so that they can know their military budget has been well spent.
