The Pirates already had a deep bullpen and LaRoche is going to have a field day with that short porch in RF. I agree, pencil him in for 40+ HRs and 100+ RBIs if he stays healthy. Great trade for the Bucs!

I believe it will give their batting a much needed boost. I'm a Braves fan, and though it pains me to see Adam go, it is a wise trade in my opinion. The Braves got a great reliever/closer who is young and can be the future closer after Wickman leaves/retires. The Pirates are not hurting for bullpen help like the Braves were. I assure you that the Pirates have and probably still have one of the best bullpens in the league. Anyways, LaRoche will do wonders for the Pirates because the man is young,29, and I believe that he can get you 30-40 HRs and 90+ RBIs yearly. It is unfair to picture him as a Pujols 1B type, but I promise you that he is at least a B(grading scale mind you) first baseman. He will offer the Pirates a much needed offensive boost which is exactly what the club needs. Now they only need maybe another veteran starter.

Bad trade all around. Its hard to tell who its going to hurt most, the Braves or the Pirates. If LaRoche is the LaRoche we saw last year and not the one who played in the past, his bat will help the Pirates - Jason Bay can't supply all the power. Right now, the Pirates probably got the best end of the deal.

First off, it's LaRoche. It's French.
It means "The Red". He had a
career year last year with 32 homeruns.
he doesn't have wheels, but he's
one of the best, composed, and sturdy
first basemen out there. His unorthodox
style of hitting and his contemperary
attitude take him through the season nicely.

he's an excellent player. the pirates are lucky
to have him. they're also lucky EXTREMELY
lucky to have nick green. now there's a player.

NO, it hurts them if anything. They gave up a closer for a run of the mill left handed bat. They could have signed Wilson and while they would not have gotten quite the production as with LaRoche, the drop off is not all that great. They would have been better off with Gonzalez and Wilson than with just LaRoche.

Only if there pitching improves. There have a lot of potential in the Pirates organisation.

we will score more runs and he should easily get over 40 homers and 100 rbi in pnc park, but we still dont have a great pitching staff, snell, duke, burnett r all good and then hopefully last season draft pick Brad Lincoln plays becuase he would be a good starter or reliever

Give a last place team someone to play firstbase. That's about it. They are looking at another long year. Sanchez is never gonna do what he did last year, and their pitching is always so green.

no...he's good, but not great. and now they have no legitimate closer. i can't see them finishing better than 6th in the central.
