It's usually discussed. Most people will date for a while and then later talk about them being serious with one another. Once you know that you are to be with only her or him that's when you're actually boyfriend/girlfriend.

a date becomes a relationship when the person actually says they want 2 take things more srzly, if they dnt say nething but u continue seeing eachother (dating) its like a fling, but wen sum1 says something, it gets srz...hehhee
