Under the Defense Authorization Act (signed 10/17/06) lil bushy can declare a "public emergency" and then station troops anywhere in America. This gives him control over state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities to suppress whatever he defines as a public disorder.

This is a US president who blatently lies to the people he swore to serve, subverts their political process, constitution & justice system. A self declared born again Christian who is completely comfortable ordering the bombing of thousands of women and children whose countries stand in the way of profits for the international corporations that his family and friends control. Who believes that God directs him to attack people of color and supports his increasing presidentual powers to create an elected monarchy!

Congress needs to act to rescind these increases in presidentual powers that allow bush to become what our soldiers for decades have fought and died to prevent.

POSSE COMITATUS ACT: A Reconstruction Era criminal law proscribing use of Army (later, Air Force) to "execute the laws" except where expressly authorized by Constitution or Congress. Limit on use of military for civilian law enforcement also applies to Navy by regulation. Dec '81 additional laws were enacted clarifying permissible military assistance to civilian law enforcement agencies--including the Coast Guard--especially in combating drug smuggling into the United States. Posse Comitatus clarifications emphasize supportive and technical assistance (e.g., use of facilities, vessels, aircraft, intelligence, tech aid, surveillance, etc.) while generally prohibiting direct participation of DoD personnel in law enforcement (e.g., search, seizure, and arrests). For example, Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachments serve aboard Navy vessels and perform the actual boardings of interdicted suspect drug smuggling vessels and, if needed, arrest arrest their crews.

Yes, I don't like that. I think the army can be used at the borders despite all that talk about the act, because that is not enforcing civil law against US citizens but protecting our borders and what good is an army if it can't do that?

But this I am not keen on. There are reasons there are state rights to counter the federal rights and I think this may actually be unconstitutional, since the Nat'l Guard is a state militia under the Governor.

Ever since Ex Parte Milligan in 1867, it has been illeagal for the military to act in a domestic law enforcement capacity with in the United States. Let's go after the MCA and the suspension of
habeas corpus on 10/17/06 as well.

Good the hear that Bill Clinton never lied! Or bombed and aspirin factory. What about Bosnia, women and children? How about Rwanda, how many died there with no action at all?

Your memory seems to be selective, especially consider that Clinton said the same things about Iraq in 1998 before Bush.
