2) It's HUGE.
3) It takes up 2 continents.
4) It has 99% literacy rate and high levels of higher education.

Please don't think that Sovie Union was powerful.
It was very weak, and that's why it collapsed.
The Soviet Union was a sort of Frankinshtain, a very strange creature which could be powerful only in times of war( real war not a "cold war")
Russia is not powerful as it seems to be, we have reach natural resources but that is almost all, I am afraid that if oil and gas prices fall down, we will be back to 199_ years with very unstable political and economical situation.
On the other hand Russian people always could survive any difficulties, guess it's the real power of Russia...

They arent really all that powerful anymore. They have a lot of nukes but that is really all they have going for them. They had a fairly strong navy at one point but they cant afford to keep it running so most of the ships are rusting away in port. Once the soviet union collapsed they were no longer a superpower and there power has not risen much since then.

What powerful?Since the sovietic Union has been spoiled, Russia lost its prestige. It was a big force, and The United States were afraid of it. It had story, power, military.And now, people come to Europe for a better chance, girls fall into prostitution(and the sad is that the russian girls have such bad fame in Europe)and people dont think that the Americans forced them to be like that,You see doctors , teachers, and now they are cleaners..We hope that with the time Russia is going to be again like before

Russia isnt as powerful as it once was. The soviet union was a superpower, and after it broke up it became a great power. So now russia isnt all that power, ecspecially compared to the USA.

Russia is still poverfull in some aspects. We have natural resourses, geopolitical interests and old time friends in many unstable regions.

In Russia lot's of natural resourses,furs in Siberia,and etc...
and Iam very proud that i was born in russia!!People there very friendly in spite of some ppl saying they are not......so it's just opinion

well, its true that russia is not so powerful anymore as it used to be, but they still have: a)best weapon
b)natural resources, with the help of which they make much countries dependent on them
c)some nukes...
...and russia is still the world's biggest country
