1. Decide which type of magazines would publish an essay like yours.
2. Search for these types of magazines in a resource like Writer's Market (also available online for $3.99/month). Understand that this isn't the ONLY source for finding markets, so don't be afraid to ask around.
3. Find their submission guidelines. Most require a query letter rather than seeing the full article.
4. Submit a query to the magazine following their guidelines to a tee. Don't try to be cute to get attention. Always be professional.
5. Wait for the time it says they take to answer queries before you check on your query. Once the alotted time is up, you can contact them regarding what you've sent.
6. Repeat process until published.
-Great patience and determination required!
Good luck!! :)

You could try getting the Writer's Market 2007 it would be a wise investment. It is a very thick book that lists magazines, and people looking to publish all types of work...essays...books.. For most places in order to have your work published you must send a query letter with your work following the guidelines they give you, and sometimes with a Bio about yourself. You can also go online and look at the submission guidelines for magazines.

In order to have your work published you do have to put in some work. But I believe it is well worth it. You have to submit your work properly in order for it to be accepted. Another suggestion is to go online to WorldWide Freelance Writers. There's loads of all sorts of information for writers. Best of Luck..Go forward in your dreams.
