My cousin has this crazy idea to sue her exboyfriend for "Defamation of Character". She said she has the evidence, has emails that he a Manager at his job, he wasn't he was a File Clerk, he also lied to her about his race, he lied to her and told her he was single- he wasn't he had a live-in girlfriend, he lie to her about the car he drove, he would drive his brother's car. She invested time and gas money on this guy. Now she wants to sue him, is that EVEN possible?? I never heard of that. She lives in California.

What he did was lie, very simple. This was not a business dealing, no contracts or anything like that. To sue for defamation of character, he would have to say something derogatory or untrue about her that would cause mental and physical anguish, and tarnish her character. ex.( she has aids) To say somehting like this to others if was not true.

She can only sue him if he spread untrue rumors about her and she can prove that it changed peoples opinion of her for the worse.

She can't sue him cause she fell for his lies and gave him gas money... tell her to thank her lucky stars that she got out before he took her for even more time and money.

Time to move on, any judge will toss that out in a second.

Only people in California would think of something that stupid. Nope, not possible to sue him because he was a liar and she was stupid in believing everything. Not possible at all. Sorry you have such an air head for a cousin.

First she needs to learn what Defamation of Character is - and secondly you cannot sue someone because you were stupid enough to become involved with them.

People lie - chalk it up as a lesson and move on.
