I believe hot dogs, like a lot of other sausages, are made from the ground of remains of livestock. So after you have cut off the steaks, shoulder cuts, top cuts, etc whatever excess meat you are still left with gets ground up, and that goes into your dog.

All the lefts overs after cutting out the good pieces like pork steak and such. Then to keep all the ground up stuff together they stuff it in intestines. BTW pig tails ARE NOT in hot dogs, they cut those off with clippers when they are piglets

not winkies.. they're made out of intestines, stomach, and other organs.. oh yea and a little meat lol.. i never eat hot dogs, unless they are made of turkey or 100% beef
