It depends on the person's life, level of activity, personality, health, and other things; but common issues are frustration. Elderly people feel the same as when they were young but sometimes their bodies won't do what they wish the would. There can be depression because a long life means a life of more of an accumulation of big losses (one's siblings, friends, spouse, etc.).

Their priorities can change. What seemed important when they were 35 may not seem important to the elderly person. They have gained some perspective on life, so it should not be forgotten that many elderly people have wisdom younger people don't have.

Elderly people can get frustrated when "the world" doesn't understand that they very often are as sharp, capable, and adult as they've always been - they just look more fragile on the outside.

They can live under constant (although unintended) insult because people so often underestimate their abilities, strength, and sanity. As a result, they may be irritable a good part of the time.

Some elderly people may remain quite confident, and some have gained the wisdom and perspective and earned their right to good self-esteem.

There is a whole set of issues for elderly people (that's why there is the study of geriatrics). The above are just a few of them.

One point: It may be that there are far fewer "psychological changes" in the elderly person than there are "emotional issues associated with being elderly" (and there is a difference between the two).

I am a senior, and I feel I have more confidence than I've ever had. I just don't have the good body to do it in, but that's okay. Life is good!!!!
