Good point. We cannot help another until we help ourselves. It is lunacy to think that we can make a democracy in another country when we cannot agree on Human Rights in this country. Much less count the votes in an election.
Yes the individual can stop racism by not participating in it. When a majority of people stop having racist views and stop acting like the idiots that make up racism, we will be on a path to greatness.
When America has no homeless or hungry people then we could help others.

Umm.. If i love my friends and my family more than my society..
and I mostly ignore the problems in my society for the sake of the people whom I know (like I have to devote my time towards them)

Would i be racists then?
I then that's also kind of racism.

Make this thing broad
(it doesn't matter what's the answer for that above question but just keep the idea that I would prefer my friends and family more than my society - like I would help my friend first before helping a stranger)

So, now you would end up with society as your family, and other societies as the people who are stranger to you.

So, we must accept that Racism would always be there because most of us are too much narrow minded in defining our families.

We can get rid of this if we have to compete with other species (like aliens) -- a common enemy -- and yea I think then we all would be living in peace
but then there would racism on the basis of species.. =P

Not to sound religious or anything, but every kind of sin that has existed on the earth from the very beginning is still here today. People just create new ways of doing it. But it will never go away.

No because you still have people who are going to voice their racists attitudes anonymously on the internet. Just get on any message board or even Yahoo! answers, and you will see the same people at your work or school, that would never say some of the things they say on the internet, say in public.

if you read the Bible at Jeremiah 10:23, it goes to show that man was not created to govern themselves even if they have good intentions of trying to end injustices and read also Ecclesiastes 8:9 that shows that 'man has dominated man to their injury'. We all need divine intervention to get rid of all wickedness not rely on man's failed efforts (see Psalm 146:3-4).

Just as soon as we're down to one race. Of course, then we'll fight over eye colour.
