We would have saved millions of dollars, had we had the English as the official language bill passed. We would not have had to printed all of the tax documents and other official papers in several languages. This along would have been a major cut in the defecate.

Absolutely. It doesn't have to be your first language, but you should speak it well enough to get your point across. I have worked in retail for the past 2 years and I get so sick of customers who get mad at me because I can't speak spanish. If I were to move to Mexico I would do my best to learn their language. When I went there for a vacation I tried my best to communicate in what broken spanish that I know. Most of the time the people who don't speak English are illeagal and that is a sore subject here in Oklahoma.

Yes, I think that whichever country you live in, you ought to be able to communicate and understand the laws etc. Many countries now won't admit you until you can prove a basic working knowledge of their language.

No, and it would benefit North Americans to learn another language besides English. I think that Spanish should be a MANDATORY part of the public school curriculum in California. I bet this makes a lot of you upset huh! Oh yeah, by the way I am not Latino, just realistic.

Yes. If I moved to another country I would learn their language. They certainly would not cater to me like we do here in the US.

They do not cater to you. Here we put up signs in different languages, teach school in different languages (when they can't even do it well in one), have announcements in different languages. I have no problem what people want to speak at home but when you move to another country you need to learn their language and if you don't want to, then just go home where they DO speak your language.
