I am just wondering if college is being pushed on alot of people that dont even want to go. Alot of schools make you have a 2.5 or else they take away financial aid, but that is rediculous that is getting 2 c's and 2 b's per semester, and still people fail to be able to accomplish this task. Also is a college degree worth as much as it used to now adays. I mean it seems that just about everyone is getting one? So is a college degree going to be equivalent to a high school degree one day?

Should some people just go to vocational school. Also what does it mean to graduate with a degree in something, for example if you graduate with a degree in biology, what does that mean that you are a biologist, or that you just took some biology classes and know that parts of the cell? What does it mean to graduate with a liberal arts degree? your a liberal? I just dont get it.

Yes, post secondary education (college) should be accessible to everyone. I support the concept of getting at least a 2.5 GPA to continue receiving financial aid. Earning 2Cs and 2Bs isn't difficult and and it isn't ridiculous to expect these grades of a college student.

Yes a college degree is still valuable and worth having earned. College grads make more $$$, receive consideration for a job ahead of high school grads and people with some college but no degree. And you are incorrect; it may seem that just about everyone is getting one but there isn't any proof. And, only about 23% percent of adults over 25 have a 4 year degree.

Also I don't beleive that a high school diploma (they are not degrees) will ever be equivalent to a college degree.

Pardon me if I sound insensitive but if you truly don't understand what graduating with a degree in a specific area or disciple; such as biology means, you should think long and hard before going to college. And honestly I don't care to explain what it means (and the value) to have a degree in "something".

And NO...a liberal arts degree dosen't mean you are a liberal. Look it up in a dictionary. It means that you have learned a wide variety and range of knowledge...a well rounded education. A degree in Art History would be a liberal arts degree. A degree in Chemistry would not.

I hold an undergraduate BS degree and 2 graduate degrees; an MPA and MBA. The BS is considered a liberal arts degree. The graduate degrees are not.

I hope this helps clarify some ofr your concerns. Good luck.

It makes sense for colleges to admit people who are able to keep up with the academics- whether it's through being naturally "smart" or hard work, the proof is in the grades. Yes some people should definitely choose vocational school! Even people with high IQ's are sometimes happier working in the trades, and many trades have a shortage of skilled people. It doesn't hurt to have some of both types of education. A "liberal arts" education from college or university (with or without completing a degree) expands your view of the world and teaches you how to think independently.

You are right, as more and more people get college degrees then it becomes required for anyone to get a job. I think that it is just some way of making the world raise to a higher standard. Also a way for us to spend more money towards colleges and universities. However, as jobs keep being exported out of the U.S. then we will have no use for strongly educated people here because huge companies will just be based in other countries. We will all be doing people service jobs and not need such expensive titles gained by college. But you cannot take away the rights of people to get higher education either. So, it is a teeter-totter of what is really right or wrong.

That's why there are state colleges, to make it more accessible to everyone. There are private colleges, and Ivy League schools for those with good grades and higher parental income. There are Junior colleges and technical colleges for those who didn't have the best grades in High School. It's all just training for what you want to do as a profession. It's accessible to everyone with federal loans and pell grants.

Well, I see your point. A college degree doesn't seem worth as much as it used to because so many are getting them, but I wouldn't want to deny a degree to those who really want one simply because some arbitrary standard (SATs) says they are smart enough.

only smart people should go to college...but one's smartness does not depend on one's parents wealth! there should be more social justice in this world!
