No, neither neutral nor reverse count. In your example, it's a 5-speed, not a 6-speed. A transmission is specified in the number of FORWARD gears only.

Nope neutral is just where you have no gear engaged so its not really a gear more a lack of one

inside the tranny are gears,no one is neutral.
meaning,the neutral is in the driver's mind.

no nuetral is the state at witch the transmission is not ingaged therefor idle or (nuetral) that state' of nuetral is not a gear .
