think it's funny to make fun of someone who is disfigured or has an illness that makes them look different? I am still so upset from and earlier question about American Idol and thinking it was funny that Simon made fun of a kid about his appearance and most of the people thought it was o.k. and funny. I am so bothered by that. What has happend to compassion?

On American Idol it may be because that is what the producer is expected from the judges and audience. The reason they do it is so they get a better rating.

There is no reason for them to embarrass and humiliate people as they do. There is nothing funny about treating people with disabilities as if they don't matter.

As for compassion of TV shows there are few that do. For example Jerry Springer was a compassionate man when he first started his show. Once his ratings started slipping they had to find a way to bolster it back up and, lo and behold they found being rude and arrogant was what helped.

When you agree to appear on American Idol and thus choose to thrust yourself into that pit of vipers, then you lose the right to complain if you get bitten!

Sorry but that's the kind of show they have and anybody stupid enough to sign up to be on there is going to get exactly what they deserve.

If people really think that they're out of line, then they should write the show letters demanding change and QUIT WATCHING!!! Write to the advertizers if you feel strongly about it. But that's what the show is all about and people going on the show should know that and be prepared.
