This is a religious war. This is the worst war as no one really wins.
For years the Protestants faught with the Catholics in Ireland.
Many lives are lost and for what?
Hate is the only thing some people know. When you can stop this hating then maybe there would be a chance for peace.

The conflict between them dates back several centuries. Once Mohammad was gone, there was a power vaccuum in the hierarchy of Islam. Some believed a relative of his, a nephew I think (but don't quote me on that), should assume leadership. Others felt someone else in the leadership should do it. The argument was resolved by two factions forming. The Sunnis wanted someone from leadership to take charge while the Shia wanted Mohammad's nephew to do it. Since that time, the two factions have gone their own way. Their core beliefs are the same, but there some minor differences in their doctrine. This is enough to cause religion-based violence between them. The whole thing is comparable to the history of the Christian Church. Look at the history of Protestants and Catholics. The hatred is the same

It must be a Hatfield and McCoy kind of thing. One of the few good things Saddam was able to do was to keep a lid on it. Saddam favored the Sunni, which didn't help matters.
When he was deposed, the Shiites began to look for revenge. Muslim law is just like christian law, it's all in the eyes of the beholder.

If you are a Christian, as George W. Bush claims to be, then it is a sin to kill period. And, yet, we are doing it by the thousands.
The Sunnis beleive in electing their muhlas. The Shias believe that they have to be the direct descendents of the prophet Mohhamed.
None of this mess makes any sense.

Minor details, that killing thing goes out the window when...the killing starts. What escalates things is the fact that someones friend or family member was killed and now it's time to kill someone else for revenge. It's the same way in all killing. Friendship and family are both thicker than religion.

Probably about the same reason that Catholics and Protestants hate each other and kill each other in Ireland.

They have yet to recognize who that really are, but when they do...they will unite under one flag and they will take on their enemies. They will realize that they are defeated when they are divided. They will realize that if they united they have a better chance at defeating babylon.
