I need to setup up an office network with a network switch where I can connect the building's main network to one computer and allow other terminals to access the web through the main computer. Don't want the switch to issue any new IP addresses on the main building's network. Any suggestions??

It sounds like you need something like Internet Connection Sharing in Windows (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/234815).

In that scenario, the main computer would have two NICs - one to the building network and the other to the switch.

Use an unmanaged switch. Most switches do not assign IP addresses. Wireless home devices include a hardware DHCP server, switch, and router in the same package.

Here is NetGear's Business Rackmount Unmanaged Switch page.

You have to be careful when seledting switches as you want to get something that has a high data packet throughput. The small five port switches you see at Best Buy are really mediocre.

If this is a business, get s business grade switch.

you may decide to understand setting up DHCP, DNS for the interior reach community, routing and firewall configuration for routing ALL inner machines, utilising 2 community taking part in cards to pass the site visitors via the server. Plus all approximately securing what in effect will become a public server. that's going to then be concern to very super numbers of scripted assaults from everywhere your community visits that's monitored by hackers. I see oftentimes as much as 2000 assaults consistent with hour from one script, and this might ensue 3 or 4 situations an afternoon generally, extra many times on many days. you're far extra advantageous off to connect a router to the service and enable that configure your community and take care of it.
