I was reading Stephen King books when I was 11 and I got really into Dean R. Koontz between 12-14. If they're mass market murder mysteries like the Sue Grafton books, they should be all right. If you're concerned, see if you can turn her onto other mystery writers like Agatha Christie or Sherlock Holmes mysteries. My parents never monitored or censored my reading materials and I turned out to be a normal, well-adjusted adult.

I was reading murder mysteries at 9. I think they're really cool. I would jsut take the books from my mom. Now I read romance/fiction and medical mysteries. Yes she is. I was really mature at that age too.

Man, I used to love murder mysteries when I was that age. Mysteries in general, actually, but murder mysteries are so much better and deeper because there's always so many potential motives. You just don't get that with theft mysteries.

As I got older, my tastes changed, and now I'm into sci-fi. I'm such a geek.

Totally! let her read what she wants as long as it's not erotica or depictions of the warcrimes in Auschwitz or Iraq. Any kid who loves reading should be encouraged, but also monitored, as there are some very mature topics out there that she may not be ready for, so just be ready for unexpected and rather adult questions from her.

I started reading murder mysteries around 10, but that was because I was a humungous reader and my reading level was really high for my grade and I got tired of trying to find any books so I got into that genre, etc. I then got into reading about serial killers around the age of 13, my family went nuts lol. It was a phase though, it's just something different to read about.

Yes. When I was 10 my sister gave me her copy of Christine by Stephen King. I have knocked out about 1 book a week since then. Books have improved my vocabulary and grammar.

Yes. I read a wide range of books when I was ten ( I was, and still am, a big reader). If she wants to read the books and she's ready for them, then let her go for it.
