I was fired over the phone by my boss today because yesterday I asked for a raise of pay.. He has been has been helping me pay my school fee for college and i work with the company part-time because he says iam brilliant at my job. I having been working for nearly a year and the pay that i receive is less than minimum wage but because he is helping me with schooling i accept it. I have asked for a raise of pay b4 but was turned down beacuse he said i was not grateful for what he was doing for me. I have expenses to pay while i attend school, so i really needed the money. When i fired me he said that i do not express enough appreciation for the help i receive and by complaining about my salary i was showing ungratefulness, and that most people that are receiving such a favor would even work for free, but i complain. I asked him to consider giving me back my job and he said he will. I want to know if he gives me another chance if i should accept it. Please answer, iam so confused.

Going to the Labour Board might not be easy if you're a student. Your university might have a Student Legal Assistance program where law students help other students resolve legal problems and/or navigate the legal system. They're young and they understand what it's like to be a student, and they'll be with you every step of the way. Search your school's website for info, and if your school doesn't offer this service contact the nearest university with a law school.

go to your labor board... red flags everywhere... What an a.h., you probably should go find work else where that the boss is more appreciated of what you do and will at least pay you for it.

As for telling your parents I think that if you explain the story and the situation at hand they may be more supportive than you think.

Go back? Well, dear, that is entirely up to you... However what if you ask again next year... college rates go up every year not just for now... You'll be in the same boat, look elsewhere for employement in my opinion

That is in direct violation of a couple of labor laws... You need to be payed above minimum wage on the first part and the second he can not Fire you for asking for a review and asking for more money. I would turn that MF in.

How old are you? He cannot fire you unless your job proformance is unacceptable.

I ask your age, because I think he is taking advantage because of it.

It is YOU who should be giving HIM another chance! But then again, I'd go to the labor board, and turn him in. Then, I'd sue him for lost wages.

Go to your state labor board. What he is doing is illegal in regard to your pay. You are entitled to backwages, depending on the state you live in.
