I work at this firm. I have been working there for 2 months! Its an internship. So far I am not getting the experiece that I was told. The traning sturcutre was so unorganized, has a slow-paced work environment and the office is fully staffed so on some days I don't even have a desk where I can do some work. On top of that the staff is kind of unfriendly. They have thier own little converstaions. When I make a comment or try to make a coverstaions they either ignore it or just nod and then start working. I don't know why I can't get along with these people. I've held my patients and I keep smililng. I ask about thier weekends and stuff but its like a one syllable answer. I am pretty normal person. I can strike up a conversation with a stranger or a random classmate. I talked so much at my last job that we couldn't even get work done. At this job they don't even make small converstaions with me or ask me about my weekends/days etc. What do I do? Anyone else with same problem?

Ohh and you know why it bothers me the most...2 of them are around my age. There are only 5 ppl in the office so its small office and everything done/not done is easily noticed. That's why I can't help but take it personally and am starting to get frustrated!

If this is an internship and you will be going back to school at the end of this semester than I would talk with the career center and explain what is going on while you finish out the term. This way you can put on your resume that you worked for such and such company for X amount of months and you found this type of environment not suited for you.

Obviously the people there are click-ish and know you are just an intern passing though this job on to something else. I am assuming you meant a temporary intern, if this is correct, just put up with the situation and then leave when the internship is over. These people are not interested in being your friend or helping you fit in. Many people do not like working with interns.

If by intern you mean an internship such as this is a permanent job and you are just in the new phase - then you might want to work elsewhere. You have done everything you can to be friendly, etc. You cannot make people like you or accept you - move on.

Not me, I can't get people to shut up around me sometimes. But places of business like all things take on a personality. You could walk into another organization and most likely find it completely different. Don't take it personally until you find this happens to you everywhere you go, lol. There's not really anything you can do. Don't force yourself, that will be a nightmare, and it's possible that time will solve this although it doesn't sound likely.

i had the same problem before...and all i did was FOCUS on my job. i did everything right when it came to my work - socially, i said hi when needed, said bye, and also, i didn't try hard to join in conversations if i wasn't invited...i was the newbie, so you have to let things settle in. after a while, some coworkers/people do appreciate and recognize a hardworker...and when getting to know them, i learned that starting out as a good listener sure does help. :)
