So, sometime next fall my boyfriend, best friend, her bf, and I are driving out to San Diego for probably a week or two (depending on if we stay with relatives of mine or at a hotel). I've been twice before to visit an my aunt and uncle, and though it's been a few years, I tell them constantly how much I love it there. So, they agreed to go with me.

I've been to Coronado, and my aunt and uncle live a short walk from La Jolla and Seal Beach and such, so we'll definatly be going there. I liked the Wild Animal Park too.

I'm just curious about places like Disney Land and Universal. I've been to Disney World in FL, but I don't know what the difference is. Also, some other places that would be fun to check out. And would Universal and DL be worth the money for the tickets? I mean, we're all in college, paying for ourselves, so we're trying to spend as wisely as possible.

One last thing...any good hotels near there? Just in case.

Thanks!

Also...anything fun we should be checking out on the drive down? We're traveling from near Detroit, so this is a cross-country affair. Just thought I'd see if there is anything to break up our 36-hour drive.

If you're in college then you will love the community of Pacific Beach, a lot of college students, recent graduates (like myself), and just young people working to live there. Great beaches, great nightlife, and great people. Downtown San Diego also has a lot of great clubs and bars and good nightlife too, the crowd there is a little older than Pacific Beach.

Disneyland is the same thing as the Magic Kingdom at Disneyworld except with a smaller castle. It has CA Adeventure, but that's pretty lame. Both are overpriced too. Seaworld is very overpriced but you get free beer b/c it's owned by Annheiser Busch. If you want to get into SeaWorld for free just get a hand stamp, smudge it a little, then just flash it real quick at the re-entry gate and walk right in, the employees don't care. I've done it several times.

Universal Studio is like a 2.5 drive away so I'm not sure how worth it it will be for you. Tijuana is always a fun little day trip too and it's cheap. I think the best places are either Downtown, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, La Jolla, and Mission Valley. There are ton's of hotels in Mission Valley too.

Balboa is a nice place to walk around and the zoo is right by there. If you are there on a Tuesday you should go to PB Bar and Grill in Pacific Beach and get there early so you can actually get a place to sit, it gets really packed It used to be $1 tacos and Coronas. There is also good food up in the "gayborhood" Hillcrest, and GasLamp. If you go during baseball season the Padres stadium is one of the nicest I've been to. TJ is always an adventure as long as you don't talk to any of the men outside of the clubs and have them hustle you in. As for Disney, if you can go on a weekday it would be worth the drive and if you are only there one day pick one park or the other it is impossible to do both in one day. Universal would not really be worth the hastle. For cheap hotels, try onetravel.com, kayak.com and go to biddingfortravel.com to see what prices people are getting on priceline and for what hotels.

Go to www.gosandiego.com and get the Go Card. Its cheap and gets you into a lot of things for free. I did the zoo, the aquarium, museums, and wine tasting. Definitely go to the Gaslamp District. Horton Plaza is an amazing outdoor mall. La Jolla is beautiful! And eat at The Living Room. Great place! Have fun

For an inexpensive ride on the bay, try the Bahia Belle (last time I checked it was only $6) and includes live music. There's a bar and the ship travels back and forth between Bahia Resort in Mission Bay and the Catamaran in Pacific Beach. It's free for visitors staying at either hotel.

If you enjoy wine tasting, there are wineries in San Diego (many of them with free wine tasting). Most are located off of Interstate 15 around Escondido or around the gold rush town of Julian.
