the tank.

BETTAS ARE NOT "HAPPIER" IN SMALL BOWLS. bowls can't be heated, bettas need temps around 75-85F. bowls are tiny, they are used to LARGE territories int he wild, while the water they live in is not DEEP it IS WIDE. there is no filtration, bettas, just like every other fish, produce waste so, just like every oher fish, they need filtration.

in the average house room temp water is around 65F, around 20F colder than a betta is used to. it is easy to understand how bettas who are kept in bowls feel, consider this...

someone keeps you in a CLOSET which is kept at about 45F (around 20F colder than most people are comfortable in). there is no toilet int he closet, so you have to just go on the floor. even if someone clean the floor of the closet out the recommended 3 times per week it's still not happy living conditions. you can survive, but you won't be happy, and will quickly find yourself in weakened sick conditions and will most likely die.

get rid of the air pump in the tank, bettas don't need them, and replace it with a filter and heater. he will be MUCH happier in the tank. the tank described is an IDEAL tank for a betta. I'm not sure what sized tank it is, if you put the dimensions or gallons I can even recommend tank mates for him.

Hi,

I also would not put a betta in a big tank they seem more happy in a small bowl. But by small betta needs a least 2 gallon to live hapily. Kepping betta in cups is a myth and all those 1/2 gallon tank from Marineland are bad. If the goldfish bowl is at least 2 gallon i see no issue. Some people even keep their betta in a nice 5 gallon by themself.

Of course he'd rather have a tank. Only problem is that you shouldn't really have any other fish in there, really. If they are aggressive at all, (even guppies) they will nip at his fins and bother him. If he has been fine in a bowl, keep him there but make it as large a bowl as you can get and put in a sponge filter or something so that the water doesn't foul so much. I have had a betta in a LARGE vase with a plant in it for four years...seems very happy. I know he would still prefer a tank with all the goodies but I have guppies in a 10 gal tank and community fish in a 40 gallon tank and cichlids in a 75 gallon tank. All of these other fish will bother him so I leave him in his 2 gallon vase. Good luck, and say hi to betta for me

I think a small 10 gallon tank is fine. I always feel so sorry for betta fish. No animal wants to be in such a small bowl.

Bigger is always better. for those who have a bowl, there is a reason why your bettas don't move. bowls have no place for heaters. my 2.5 gallon tank is heated and my betta is very active.

betta fish do best in goldfish bowls with no plants etc. thats why your betta is 3 years old. keep it in the bowl. no bubbles. no plants.

Leave him were he is. Betta's do not like a lot of water or movement. They are born in mud puddles. As long as the bowl is 1 gallon and has a place to hide he is fine.

i have a betta and its 5 years old!!!
Anyway you should get just a bigger bowl not a tank unless your getting another fish but i don't recomend that anyway the bigger bowl will help its size but if it was in a tank it will feel lonely and there would be so much space even with a 3 year old betta

He'll be happier in the small bowl. A tank is a lot of territory to cover and he may get scared.

keep him in the same tank hes been in. i moved my betta to a bigger tank after i had, had him for two years and he died the next morning after i switched tanks.
