It takes a man and a women to have a baby.
It takes a mother and a father to raise a child. Raising a child to adulthood is a demanding job. It can be done by one parent, but how much easier would it be for them if they had another parent to help. Anyone who has tried to do it by themselves knows what I am talking about.
Think of what is best for the child, one or two parents?

Do you want to be at or below the poverty line for the rest of your life?
Because statistically that's where most single mothers are--so unless you have the resources or very strong family support--it's a bad idea.

Absolutely. You owe it to yourself, your partner and the kids in particular. It is a sad statistic that you cite. The high rate of out of wedlock pregnancies is, in large part, due to irresponsibility. The current child beariing generation has it within their power to begin to turn the tide of those statistics. I hope they are up to the challenge.
