I can't seem to sleep through the entire night, especially when I have something to do in the morning, because I get excited thinking about it and then can't fall asleep.

When I finally manage to fall asleep, I wake up about three times in the night.

By the time morning comes around, I have a LOT of trouble waking up. I mean, a lot. I can even end up sleeping through my alarm. Then, I'm tired all day. Like, really tired. To the point of being almost incoherent and falling asleep.

I managed to deal with this all throughout high school, but I'm starting a new job, and I don't want to be disgustingly tired all day. What should I do? Coffee doesn't seem to have any effect on me, so I usually don't bother drinking it, unless someone else offers me some.

Sleeping pills, or go to bed rather early, make sure its dark and you dont even have a clock ticking or anything to distract you, make sure your bladder is fullfilled, maybe put on a eye thing, one of those sleep night eye things, the things that have a string around your head and yeah, and like drift off to dream land and think about what will happen the next day or near fture, or just dream about anything. Before you go to sleep have a warm drink or somesort and make sure you arent wearing something rather cold. Good Luck!

Make sure the room is dark and quiet. Find some relaxing music (you can buy CD's just for sleeping which are meant to help you fall asleep and stay asleep)
Pick a schedule and stick to it (even on weekends)....so if you know you do best on 7 hours, figure out when you need to go to bed (and allow a few minutes to fall asleep and wake up) same goes for if you need 8 or 9.
It is hard to get used to but it will help. I used to have the same problem and it was hard going to sleep at 10:30 on a Friday or Saturday night.....but it will help you in the long run....before you know it, it will feel normal and your body will want to go to bed at the set time.
Make sure you wear comfortable clothes and are the right clothes for the temperature outside...
Avoid caffine in the afternoon...caffine does more harm than good. In the morning, drink water or eat an apple. Water is proven to wake you up more than caffine...sounds crazy but try it and see for yourself!
so....
1-Make sure the room is dark
2-Get rid of noise
3-Find a continuous playing CD made for sleeping
4-Figure out how much you need and come up with a schedule...then stick to it
5-Wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothing
6-No caffine in the afternoon
7-Drink water instead of coffee in the morning to wake up
8-Eat an apple for breakfast....they also are shown to wake you up quicker than caffine
9-Eat healthy during the day, it will help you sleep at night
10-avoid alcohol....you might fall asleep at first but you never reach deep REM sleep and will feel more tired in the morning.

I hope this helps. There are books out there that will help....visit your local book store or Amazon.com.
Good Luck! Sweat Dreams....

the most important thing to do is learn to relax. i had the same problem. especially the last few years. what helped for me was to do some self-hypnosis and then i also tried over the counter sleep aids. don't use them often but try them for a few nights and see how they help. first time you use them wait about 20 mins and then lay right down. go to bed an hour or so before your normal time. that should help and once you get in the habit of sleeping at night it gets easier to learn how to shut off you brain. if that doesn't help, speak to your Dr. there are many prescription medications for that purpose.

I go to bed with a hat on my head, covering my eyes, because the heat puts me right to sleep.

I used to have the same problem, and I found out I had a sleeping disorder, mention it to your doctor next time youre there.

Go to bed early, clear your mind, go to bed always at the same time... work out so you are tired enough.
