When I was a server I worked at a restaurant that had the reputation of having the best liver in our area. I began to ask people how they wanted their liver cooked after realizing people were very picky on how they wanted it cooked. My co-workers thought it was strange, but my customers were quite pleased

Ah, liver and onions, God's favorite. THe only comment I ever had was "How would you like your liver? My answer was: On a plate" The waitress is still trying to figure it out, I think.

No. If I am out to dinner I wouldn't ever order liver and onions. I would much rather spend my money or my time out on something that is more appetizing than LIVER....
Nevertheless, people have different fancies for how their meat is cooked.

YUCK! My mom made us eat liver and onions at home ALL the time, and she always cooked it dry. It was gross, so I don't have a good taste in my mouth for liver, I don't order it when I eat out.

Some people like it less cooked but it's not common for the waitress to ask.

I've never ordered it in a restaurant but I seem to remember that Julia Child recommended it rare. I personally prefer it medium. I wish my boys liked it so it would be worth cooking it again. I used to make it for my father-in-law.
