Ok so i have a blank tape, my vcr/ dvd player that can always progetct the images from the tape on my tv. but what's wrong? whenever i hit REC it never records from the tv when i'ts playing. What's that all about?

You obviously need to feed to the VCR the TV signal.

Make also sure the little tab at the back of the tape is not broken (it is used to prevent accidental over-writes). If it is broken, just put some paper with tape.

Your TV uses Channel 3 for add-ons, or VIDEO?

Usually, a VCR only outputs to the tv one-way, depending on the set-up.

If you are trying to record something on cable, you should hook-up the cable wire directly to the vcr unless you have a 2-way communication between the tv/vcr.
