Half-life 2 will not launch!?

Hey, I have half life 2 deathmatch and capture the flag in steam. However, when I click launch it says it is preparing to launch, but then an error box comes up. Any help, please?

Whats the error?
Look on the valve and steam websites, they have a list of the various error codes and what they mean.
