1. First of all, you may not ever feel the baby drop. Many first time moms never even feel the baby drop, especailly if you are carrying low. One way to tell is you'll suddenly feel the baby moving REALLY far down there. Also you will feel it's a lot easier to breath, and often when the baby drops they will push on your bladder more, so you will notice you have to pee a lot more often.
2. You can exercise lightly as soon as it feels comfortable for you, but most doctors recommend not doing any heavy exercising until after your 6 week appointment, when you're all cleared and any tears are healed over.
3. For my daughter it took me about 4-5 months to get back to normal, but it really depends on your eating and exercising habits. Also, if your nursing that burns A LOT of calories and helps you get back to your pre pregnancy weight much quicker.
4. Sorry to tell you, but your stomach will be pretty gross. At least I thought mine was! It will be pretty squishy and mushy and will unfortunately still look like you are pregnant for a while. I was told to plan my "going home out fit" to be something that fit you when you were six months pregnant. Kind of depressing, I know.
But, after all, these are the sacrafices we make for our children, just be happy about your baby, and don't worry, your body will get back normal, I promise!

1- not all babies drop. I had 2 out of 5 that were floating just prior to delivery. The other ones I didn't really feel them drop.
2-I had 4 vaginal and 1 section and I started walking as soon as I got home and took it slow. They say to wait for a 6 week check up but I was stupid and did not, I wanted to get into shape asap because I always heard the longer you wait the harder it is.
3- not long at all. I have 5 kids and I look good. I could loose 10-20 more pounds and I would be awesome. I am working on that. I do taebo in the cold months and walk in the summer. It is hard but dont give up.
4- yes it is a sad situation after giving birth it takes time for the belly flab to go away but keep in mind you just had a baby don't compare yourself with a fat person.. focus and you can do it, I was 195=197 at my deliveries and 155 today. My kids are 9,8,7,3,and 2.

You know when baby drops when you have to pee alot more. Because baby is down resting on your pelvis. You may have pain on your pelvis and feels like baby is hurting your vagina. Lots of pressure.
I would say a good six weeks before you do any strenous exercise. You can start slowly around four weeks. Unless you have a c section then I'd ask your dr. But you will be very tired at first and with a new baby won't find time to get to the gym.
I had my baby four months ago. I only lost a little of the weight i gained during the delivery. I want to work out but it is hard to find time with a new baby. Invest in some baby and me work out dvds, it promotes bonding with baby and some exercise for you. But i still don't feel as good as i used to. I keep saying when I can wear my old pants I will...but who knows if i ever will.
Right after wards it is like a marshmellow. All mushy and gross, a little hangy. But in a few weeks that goes away and you just have a little pouch. If you gain a lot of wieght then yes that is what it looks like.
Oh, i just read that you got one of those dvds.
Walk with baby in a baby carrier. Push a stroller.
Baby and me classes at the Y.
High energy work out dvds while baby is napping.
But give it time, it takes a while to get back into shape. With my first it took me about a year and a half.
Drs say you shouldn't start cutting calories until the sixth week. ANd not at all if you are breast feeding. Plus you loose weight quicker if you breast feed because it takes a lot of caloires to do it.

1. You will Feel like you can breathe again.
2. The doc says 6 weeks but a couple of weeks you should feel good enough to walk for exercise, swim, and do preacher curl weights on a supported board.
3. I have not fully got back in shape but if you work at it you will get there.
4. When leaving the hospital you will look like you are 4 months pregnant. That is because it takes some time for the uterus to contact down back to normal. Breastfeeding helps the uterus contract faster.
drink plenty of water and sleep when possible (like when baby sleeps. Don't feel bad about sleeping all the time the first few days. You will need it later.
Don't be afraid to ask for help from family and friends. Let them hold baby while you take a Loooooooooong shower or shop. You have your hole life to hold him or her.
Relax it happens to everyone.

1. No, nothing sudden, you will not be able to cross your legs, and your bump should be lower (unless you have a long baby)
2. this depends most definately not before your 6 week check, although I would get out there with baby in pram before 6 week check, fresh air is good for you both and starts you with some gentle exercise. (if you end up having a C-section ask your gyno) Remember you will be exhausted so don't over do it. If you breastfeed you need to rest to have good milk in the early days. and be careful as your body still produces the hormone that keeps your joints megga supple so could be prone to go over on your ankles.
3. my baby is 4 months now and I started back in the gym 2 weeks ago, feel different when your a mum, enjoy your baby they don't stay small for long, but great to get to the gym for an hour a day.
4. I was so lucky as i have no stretch marks so a bit of extra padding is acceptable, my tummy needs work but its not gross. the skin tightens up after a while never completely like before but ya know, once you get your baby in your arms, its worth a bit of a wobble !!

Congratulations! To answer your questions....I never felt a sudden downward movement when I dropped. For me it was more gradual...like the baby was just settling in lower (if that makes sense!) My doc recommends that you wait 6 weeks before starting up exercise again and start slowly - ask your doc for her opinion though before you start a program! I didn't start feeling like my old self for about 5 months....I could fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes at about 3 months, but I still felt a little different - you'll see what I mean soon enough! After you have your baby, your stomach will gradually shrink. How you end up looking really depends on what shape you were in before the baby and if you exercised while you were pregnant and how much weight you gained. But, no, you won't have a huge flap of skin just hanging there - don't worry about that! You'll just gradually shrink, but will probably always have a little looser skin there....not necessarily noticable to anyone but you. I have never been real big on workout programs, so I don't have much to offer on that area, but, I will say.....take it easy for awhile after your baby is born. You will be very surprised how tired you are and how the days seem to pass so quickly and all you've done is smile at your new baby all day long :) Best of luck to you and congrats again!

1. i didn't notice it in any of my four kids.
2. Generally 6 weeks after or when cleared by your OBGYN. Be careful it can be dangerous if you try before that.
3. Usually 6 to 9 months to really get back in shape but don't fret you won't have time to notice anyway.
4. It is gonna look a little loose and squishy at first but it will start to tighten back up over the next 6 weeks. Try a skin firming lotion to help the process and protect from severe stretch marks.
And for an added tip just enjoy the baby and eat healthy and you will be fine.

!--I never knew when my son dropped. But then, come to think of it, I don't think he did, which is why I never had any natural contractions and they finally had to do an emergency C-section. So, maybe you will know when your baby drops.
2--Sadly, I never attempted any exercise so I'm not sure when it is OK afterward, though I do know that your doc will tell you that at your six week post appointment. You shouldn't do strenuous exercise before then.
3--As you might guess, I wasn't in shape before I got pregnant so I'm not now either.
4--I think there's a little tiny bit of "looseness" around the belly button, but it will hardly be noticeable if you are in as good a shape as you sound. Good luck and congratulations!

Your baby might not drop until right before labor. If it does, you will know b/c you will be peeing all the time and your stomach will look different.
You can exercise 6 weeks after delivery w/ a C-section. After a vaginal, you can safely do it sooner, but need to ask your doctor.
You will never look the same as you did before you gave birth, even if you are a marathon runner.
You will look six months pregnant after you give birth, and yes, your tummy skin will sag. You also will probably have a permanent "pooch".

Congratulations! Pretty soon you'll have your own bundle of joy. You're OBGYN will tell you when you've dropped; you'll also feel/see him/her riding low in your tummy--though you won't feel the actual "dropping". They tell you to wait 6 weeks--I wasn't ready for quite some time after that--as your body will be very sore, and you'll feel exhausted like the 'wind has been knocked out of you"! I lost my stomach literally within a week and a half, though your body takes on a whole new shape--you will see less tightness. Hope I helped!
